A. Addition of Appliances
One reason why adding appliances can cause high electricity consumption is that each appliance uses electrical power when it operates. When you add more appliances to a home or building, the total amount of electricity being used increases because there are more devices drawing power from the electrical system.
For example, if a household adds an air conditioner, a second refrigerator, or multiple electronic devices, these appliances consume electricity throughout the day. As a result, the overall energy usage and electricity bill become higher.
B. Longer hours of appliances use
Using appliances for longer hours increases the total kWh consumed, which leads to higher electricity bills.
C. Monthly Rate
A higher monthly rate increases the cost of each kilowatt-hour (kWh) consumed. As a result, the total electricity bill becomes higher even when electricity usage remains the same.
D. Grounded load side wire
A grounded load-side wire can increase electricity consumption because electrical current leaks through an unintended path to the ground, wasting energy and causing the electric meter to record higher usage.
E. Pilferage (direct tapping)
Pilferage (direct tapping) can cause high electricity consumption because unauthorized users connect directly to an electrical line and use electricity without proper permission.
If the illegal connection is attached to a customer's electrical system, the electricity used through the tapped connection may be recorded by the customer's meter. This increases the total kWh registered and results in a higher electricity bill.
F. Season (Summer, Holidays)
During summer and holidays, electricity consumption usually increases because appliances like air conditioners, fans, and refrigerators work harder and are used longer due to the heat. Frequent use of appliances and staying indoors more often can also raise power consumption.
G. Number of persons/occupants
A higher number of occupants can increase electricity consumption because more people use electrical appliances and devices, leading to greater overall energy usage and higher kWh consumption.
H. Home renovation (machines used)
Home renovation can increase electricity consumption because power tools and construction equipment use large amounts of electricity, especially when operated for extended periods during renovation activities.
